Welcome to SOS Marathon 2020 - #RunningForRescues

Strength of Shadow Dog Rescue and G-Dog Gordon are coming together to run the Surf City Marathon 2020 in Huntington Beach, California on February 2nd, 2020. We are excited to be a presence at this race and bring awareness of rescue dogs and special needs dogs. Our team consists of wonderful people who range from novice to advanced runners but all have DOGS in common. 100% of the proceeds raised will go to benefit the Dogs of SOS Dog Rescue.

For information on how to “Join the Team” please email jen@strengthofshadow.org

Our team members are all looking for help to meet their fundraising goals. Meet the Team below:

I'm Robbie, Founder/CEO of SOS Dog Rescue. I'm 38 years old and have dedicated the last 5 1/2 years to saving dogs. My life would not be the same without Shadow & Dallas. They make me strive to be a better person. They are the inspiration behind SOS Dog Rescue. My goal is to help everyone find their "Shadow".

Janet Turner & G-Dog Gordon

What started out as a girl with anxiety running with a dog, has developed into so much more. Running and dogs are my 2 drugs of choice to be able to be present in life. I thought if these 2 drugs could help me, maybe Gordon and I could do more. We hit the streets to educate and advocate for local Shelters and Rescues in need. We will continue running to help save as many dogs as possible. We hope to see you on the road...

Janet will be running the Full Marathon. To donate to Janet’s campaign please visit:

Brian Powers

Brian is a devoted husband, father & Kern County Firefighter. Here is a note from Brian:

I have run almost my whole life, but that doesn't mean that makes this marathon any less of a challenge. I will be completing a 20 week training plan with runs 5-6 days of the week. In my house we have Cooper, who is a Walker Coonhound, that we adopted from our local shelter. He means so much to us, and I strongly encourage everyone to seek out a dog from a rescue program or from a shelter if they are interested in a new family pet.

Brian will be running the Full Marathon. To donate to Brian’s campaign please visit:

carrie rickels

I am a volunteer and foster for SOS as well as mom to Kason, a dog rescued by Robbie Miller and my husband Adam. Adam is a CSI Tech for KCSO and found/cared for a puppy at a crime scene. He had an instant connection with this pup and we enlisted the help of Robbie to keep the pup off "the list" at the shelter. We ended up fostering and then adopting the puppy named Kason, who's namesake was a little boy who was an innocent victim of gang violence. The house where Adam found Kason was tied to the suspects of the murder case and we wanted something good to come from a tragic situation. Kason is in training with Canine Mindset to develop his manners so he can be of service to our community. He is named for a beautiful bright light in our community that was extinguished too soon and we feel Kason should have purpose to bring love and light in memory of that loss. We hope to be sharing some amazing news about Kason's journey soon. Please support the growth of this amazing organization so they can do more for our community.

Carrie is our “Sidelines Team Captain” and will be at the finish line cheering on our Team. To donate to Carrie’s campaign please visit:
